PEOPLE SUCCESSFUL IN RECOVERY
I just started looking at those that were successful in recovery and noticed that keeping a journal or notebook was something that a lot of them did.

MY OWN LIFE

I also remembered that in my own life, the times that I had the strongest walk with God were the times I was writing stuff down.

WRITING DOWN MY HURTS

My writing stuff down started when my counselor asked me to write down all of the hurts I could think about in my past and begin asking God to heal them.  I thought, well, I’d better get a notebook.  I wrote each hurt on a separate page and started working through them.

I also kept the notebook around to record important things I was learning from books, podcasts, and support groups about sexual recovery.   I write down people’s phone numbers, websites, bible verses, and anything important to my recovery.

The cool thing with using my notebook to write down those hurts, is that I can come back to it, revise it, and use it for my future notes to talk with you guys.

WORKING OUT ANGER

I am amazed at all of the anger that I have.  I have hurts of the past that caused me to be angry with my dad, my mom, former friends, enemies, churches, pastors and God Himself.  I am also angry at myself sometimes.  The notebook is a great place to pause and work this stuff out.  Your struggle for sexual purity comes with some anger baggage.  Pause, and work it out.  Use a pen and paper and work it out.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER THOUGHTS ABOUT WRITING STUFF DOWN
At some point you may have a chance to help someone else with their stuff.  It will be great to go back to your notebook and figure out what it was like.

Start a private blog.  Maybe typing it on the computer is a good place for you to write out your stuff.  You can always do it anonymously.

I want to be intense and serious about my recovery.  Keeping a notebook is just one more tool in the arsenal to help me with recovery.

I keep my notebook with me at all times.  I keep it in a safe place so nobody will grab it.  But I don’t want to be far from writing some good advice and thoughts down.

It’s a positive outlet.  I have to constantly look for healthy ways to work out my frustrations, feelings, and emotions.  This is more productive than looking at porn or masturbating.
